As a designer working on AI-driven applications for the investment management industry, I learnt firsthand how important effective research and analysis is to generate alpha and manage risks.
Hive's primary goal was to improve the research efficiency related to text documents and help the AIG Public Credit desk find important information more easily and spot key risks in real-time so they could generate more returns for their $150+ billion assets.
However, with a vast amount of unstructured text data available from various sources such as SEC filings, earnings call transcripts, and sell-side research, analysts and portfolio managers struggled to find topical events, spot key risks, and visualise aggregate trends in real-time.
To help overcome these challenges, we used high-quality Natural Language Processing (NLP) event detection, customised taxonomy of events, and sentiment related to investment research.
We created a world-class NLP product that could be used not just in the investment management industry, but in the broader financial services industry as well.
